Film-Concert: Innocent Sorcerers
In 2026, the Andrzej Wajda Year is being marked – one hundred years after the birth of one of the great masters of world cinema, and ten years after his passing. To mark the occasion, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Cosmopolite and the Polish Embassy in Oslo invite you to a very special film-concert dedicated to Wajda’s artistic legacy.
This evening, we will screen Innocent Sorcerers – one of Wajda’s most atmospheric and modern films. The film follows Bazyli, a young sports doctor and jazz musician, who meets Pelagia in Warsaw’s nightlife. Over the course of one night, they move between flirtation, irony and emotional games, while both try to hide how deeply they long for closeness.
With its black-and-white visual language, restless energy and close connection to the Polish jazz scene around 1960, Innocent Sorcerers captures a generation searching for freedom, while also struggling to be honest, vulnerable and truly present. The film stands as a distinctive and sensual work in Wajda’s filmography – lighter in form than many of his major historical works, yet deeply rooted in questions of identity, responsibility and human dignity.
The film’s music was composed by the legendary Krzysztof Komeda, one of the most important figures in Polish jazz and film music. During the screening, the iconic soundtrack will be performed live by the quintet led by Albert Karch, in transcribed and arranged versions for a smaller instrumental ensemble. The group remains faithful to the spirit of the original, while also using the music as a springboard for improvisation – giving Komeda’s timeless work a fresh, vivid and contemporary expression.
Film-Concert: Innocent Sorcerers is therefore more than a film screening. It is a meeting between classic Polish cinema, live jazz and one of Europe’s most influential directors – an evening where Wajda’s artistic legacy is brought to life in the room, here and now.
This concert is presented in collaboration with IAM and supported by the Polish Embassy.
