Amadou & Mariam - The blind couple

On Sunday, 8 November, Cosmopolite Scene will host a special screening of the documentary about the legendary Malian duo Amadou & Mariam. Before the screening, there will be a panel discussion featuring Miloud Guiderk (founder and artistic director of Cosmopolite), Alexandra Archetti Stølen (Oslo World), and Arne Berg (Musikkreisen).

Since the 1980s, their music has reached millions of people around the world. They have become the faces of contemporary West African music, and while their success has been remarkable, their path to fame has unfolded against a backdrop of unrest in their home country, Mali.

Against this backdrop, Amadou & Mariam’s more recent songs have become anthems for displaced people. Despite these circumstances, the duo’s music has remained optimistic and continues to inspire audiences worldwide.

This documentary explores Amadou & Mariam’s success and career, culminating in a major concert in their home country—one that would prove to be their last.
