Baba Soul & The Professors of Funk + Anna-Lisa Kumoji
After filling Cosmopolite with rhythm, energy, and dancing last autumn, Baba Soul & The Professors of Funk are back – and this time, they’re taking it one step further with special guest Anna-Lisa Kumoji joining them on stage!
Baba Soul & The Professors of Funk is an eight-piece band with a full horn section, infectious grooves, and a frontman who delivers it all: Baba Soul, aka Hugo Pereira. With charisma, presence, and power, he has made the band a live favorite for anyone who loves classic funk and soul with a modern twist.
Tonight’s guest, Anna-Lisa Kumoji, has a voice and presence that hits straight to the heart. She was a gold finalist in Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix with the song “Holla”, and is known from both the musical theatre scene and television. With roots in soul, gospel, and afrobeat – and inspiration from Tina Turner and Bruno Mars – she is a singer with impressive range, both musically and emotionally.
DJ Correct sets the mood before the concert, and Bar Souk invites you to the afterparty in the foyer afterwards. This will be a full evening for anyone who wants to feel the music in their body – from the very first beat to the last dance move.
The band has previously appeared on Norwegian Talents and was the house band for the TV show Senkveld. In 2017, they released their debut album Chronotapes, featuring a mix of original songs.
Baba Soul & The Professors of Funk have played countless stages and festivals, always delivering powerful 60s- and 70s-inspired funk and soul with a fresh, contemporary feel.
Genres such as jazz, gospel, blues, hip-hop, R&B, and afrobeat inspire the band’s sound. The evening at Cosmopolite is dedicated to the soul genre – and we promise it’s going to be old school!
