LUSOFEST OSLO 2022

Lusofest is the complete evening filled with groovy rhythms, tropical warmth and joy!

Are you missing the rhythms from samba, bossa nova, kizomba or morna from Oslos nightlife? It is all being served in one evening, claims Ary Morais, a musician from Kapp Verde who had the idea of making Lusofest.

Morais plays morna, a musical genre with roots from Kapp Verde, it has similarities to both fado and bossa nova, but is also characterized as a form of blues. Morais himself describes this music as “Music to cry to, to feel joy with and to make you miss the place you are from”.

Lusophony refers to the idea of Portuguese creating a community of cultural, social and political togetherness with Portugal and its former colonies. The prefix of Lusophony, Luso, refers to the god Bacchus` son Lusus, who according to the legends founded Portugal.

Portuguese is spoken by around 220 million people around the world, and here in Norway there are particularly many Brazilian artists in the musical scene.

Morais points out that Cosmopolite scene has arranged several fado-concerts, with a fully packed audience. He has been on tour around the country, and recorded an album in Portugal, and has noticed that Norwegians are really into fado! Morais says:

“Lusophony concerts don’t happen that often here in Norway. This concert  is unique, because the audiende is being presented with everything in one evening!” Morais adds a quote that Norwegian people often claim about Lusophony music:

“It is the feeling of summer during the wintertime!”

Ivan Mazuze
Saxophonist Mazuze has been part of Oslos musical scene for many years, with several record publications and international tours under his belt.

Morais presents styles such as coladera, morna, batuque and funana, a mix of traditional and modern music from Kapp Verde.

DJ JI
The nights DJ comes from Angola and plays kizomba and zouk, spiced with some kuduro and afrobeat. This will be a celebration of world music, kizomba and zouk! There will be upbeat rhythms, rum cocktails, pretty people, groovy dancing and tropical vibes. Dress up, bring your best mood, dancing shoes and come join the party!
